Active duty Air Force, Air Force Reserver, Air Force National Guard, and US Space Force personnel are eligible for up to $4,500 in financial assistance through Air Force Credentialing Assistance (CA). CA is designed to help you earn certifications and licenses to augment your skills in the Air Force, prepare for advancement opportunities, and transition into a civilian career.

HOW IT WORKS

Here's a quick summary of the Air Force CA program:

  • Amount: a voluntary benefit with a limited lifetime cap of $4,500.

  • What Schools Qualify: Civilian credentials and licenses through approved credentialing agencies, including FlightGest Academy.

  • What Can Funds be used for?: credentialing exam (or series of exams if the selected credential has more than one exam), coursework, preparatory courses that are not academic in nature or related to a degree, other credentialing expenses and related exam fees, and up to $500 for study materials.

  • Who Funds it?: The Department of the Air Force through the Department of Defense funds the program.

Program Eligibility

Service members must meet these requirements:

  • Enlisted DAF members (includes USAF, USSF, Air National Guard, Air Force Reserves)

  • Regular Air Force (RegAF) enlisted members and Air Reserve Component (ARC) enlisted
    members on Title 10 or Title 32 orders

  • Possess at least a 5-skill level in their PAFSC (Primary Air Force Specialty Code) to which the
    certification is mapped

  • Must not have an Unfavorable Information File, a failed or overdue physical fitness test, a
    Referral Enlisted Performance Board and/or be on a Control Roster at the time of application

  • Must be on active duty or on active-duty orders for the completion of the entire certification.

Applying For Air Force CA Funding

The Process:

  • Explore available Air Force Credentialing Opportunities On-Line (COOL) credentials and create an Education Goal by logging into your AFVEC account, clicking on Education Programs and selecting AF COOL.

  • Pick a credential and review prerequisites. Once you identify the credentials you're interested in, click “Create Education Goal”

  • Start a funding request in your AFVEC account by  locating your AF COOL goal and clicking "Apply for Funding". From there, follow the prompts to complete the funding request application.

  • Once your supervisor approves your funding request, it is then electronically routed to the AF COOL office which will make the payment on your behalf.

  • After you take your exam, provide the AF COOL office with a copy of your certificate of completion.
